Question:

129 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if he will provide a school bus transport for children attending a national school (details supplied) in County Cork.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 123 and 129 together.

The ten older children in question are ineligible, on distance grounds, for transport to this national school. They could be granted the concession of fare-paying transport only if accommodation were available after all the eligible children were catered for, and if no extra cost were incurred. That is not the case here.

Up to the end of the 1991-92 school year, because a double trip was necessary to accommodate all the eligible pupils, it was possible to facilitate the ineligible pupils at the same time. In the current school year, however, all the eligible pupils can be catered for in one trip.
