Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Provision of Regional Transport in Cork.

Peter Barry

Question:

130 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will support the plan by Cork Corporation for EC regional funding to extend the Iarnród Éireann rail link in Cork to Brian Boru Street, at a cost of £0.5 million; if she will similarly support the plan to incorporate the Blackpool/ Kilbarry station at a cost of £2.46 million; and if she will support the proposal to extend this commuter service to east Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Peter Barry

Question:

131 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if a decision in principle has been made to support improvements in the regional transport connection from Cork, as submitted in the report by Cork Corporation for post-1993 structural funding; the proportion of the total amount of £107.62 million involved which she will make available for its implementation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 130 and 131 together.

The upgrading of commuter and mainline rail services in Cork city and surrounding areas is, under the Transport Acts, a matter in the first instance for Iarnród Éireann. There are no proposals before my Department in this regard.
