Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Radio Transmission in County Kilkenny.

Phil Hogan

Question:

135 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications when she will approve an application by Radio Kilkenny for improved transmission to residents of South Kilkenny which was lodged some time ago; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An application by Radio Kilkenny for a frequency for a fill-in station to improve its reception in South Kilkenny was referred to my Department by the Independent Radio and Televison Commission in December 1991. In order to process the application, my Department sought further information and this was supplied through the Independent Radio and Television Commission in August of this year. Examination of the application is ongoing and will be completed as soon as possible.

In examining such applications, my Department must seek to minimise interference with other radio services and, to that end, discussions will take place with the Independent Radio and Television Commission (to whom licences in respect of local radio stations are issued) and the station.
