Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - EC Medicines Agency.

Peter Barry

Question:

137 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the Government's stated policy of decentralisation, he will advance Cork as the centre for the proposed EC Medicines Agency, which will be responsible for approving new drugs and medical products placed on the EC market, in view of the industry's preference for Cork as a pharmaceutical manufacturing base.

I am sure that the Deputy will appreciate that our efforts must concentrate in the first instance on achieving success in our application to have Ireland accepted as the country for location of the proposed EC Medicine Agency.
