Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Downs Syndrome.

Bernard Allen

Question:

142 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on a new study on the clustering of Downes Syndrome in the west of Ireland which shows that there has been an unexplained increase of 50 per cent in the number of babies born with Downes Syndrome in Galway over the last three years of the decade 1981 to 1990.

I am aware of initial press reports regarding the study to which the Deputy refers but as the findings have not as yet been published it is not possible for me to comment in detail at this stage.
