Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Admission.

Jim Higgins

Question:

150 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called to Beaumont Hospital for an urgently needed back operation.

The person in question first attended Beaumont Hospital on 1 October last, having been referred from Merlin Park Regional Hospital, Galway. I understand that the consultant in charge of her case has placed her name on the waiting list, but the hospital is not in a position to give an exact admission date.

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admission to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and every patient is assessed to determine their medical priority.

Should the person feel that her condition has deteriorated, she should return to her general practitioner who will be in the best position to emphasise the urgency of her case to the consultant directly at the hospital.
