Vol. 423 No. 5

Written Answers. - Chromosomal Abnormalities Risk.

Austin Deasy

Question:

81 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health if there is any evidence of a connection between the occurrence of the Down's Syndrome condition and the involvement of one or both parents with x-ray and/or radio-active material.

There is no conclusive evidence of any such connection but, in the case of excessive exposure to radio-active material, the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities (including Down's Syndrome) in the children of persons so exposed cannot be ruled out.
