Vol. 423 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of Member in each case: (1) Deputy D. Ahern — the measures the relevant State agencies can take in order to alleviate potential job losses in the customs clearance section with the abolition of tax frontiers on 1 January 1993; (2) Deputy T. Ahearn — the closure of the integrated pre-school in Clonmel, which is run by the local branch of the mentally handicapped association, due to lack of sufficient funding by the Department of Health; (3) Deputy Fennell — whether the Minister for Justice will take emergency action on the lack of legal aid in the Dublin area; (4) Deputy Ellis — the position with regard to the future of the Teagasc centre in Ballinamore; (5) Deputy Cotter — the need to pay adequate compensation to customs clearance agents who are being forced out of business by the completion of the Single Market; (6) Deputy Rabbitte — whether the Minister for Health has made a recommendation to the Government concerning the construction of the regional hospital at Tallaght, and whether the Government have agreed to make the necessary provision in the Estimates; (7) Deputy Garland — the continued failure by the Minister for the Marine to adequately address the virtual disappearance of sea trout in Connemara and south Mayo with the consequent disastrous effect on employment in these areas; (8) Deputy de Valera — the continuing unacceptable conditions at Ballynacally national school, County Clare where 138 children are being accommodated in two permanent rooms and two prefabricated buildings.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies:—

(1) Deputy Cotter; (2) Deputy de Valera; (3) Deputy Ahearn.
