Vol. 423 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cork Courthouse Accommodation.

Máirín Quill

Question:

14 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the lack of proper provision for family hearings in Cork Courthouse and to the urgent need to put in place proper courtroom and consultation room accommodation for such hearings in Cork city; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that facilities for family law business in Cork Courthouse are less than ideal. The demands on the available accommodation in the courthouse, however, are such that it may not be possible to allocate any alternative or additional accommodation there to the family law business. Accordingly, I have been reviewing the question of court accommodation in Cork city and as part of that review I have asked the Office of Public Works for a report on the feasibility and likely cost of adapting one or other of a number of vacant State-owned properties in the city for court purposes.
