Vol. 423 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Registration Applications.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

25 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the delay in processing applications for land registration and the consequences this has for people seeking to purchase local authority houses; if, in particular, he will ensure that a dealing number is issued to Wexford Corporation in respect of an application for the registration of land at Davitt Road South, Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is true that there are delays in the Land Registry but the position is improving in this regard. I would expect that the reconstitution of the Registry as a Semi-State enterprise will lead to further improvement in the speed of service.

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that the information supplied in the question is insufficient to trace the particular case referred to in the question. If the date of lodgement of the application in the Land Registry or any other references were made available, it should be possible to locate the particular application.
It is the policy of the Land Registry to try, as far as possible, to expedite cases in which it can be established that special circumstances of urgency exist. Any such cases will be specially considered if details of the reasons for urgency are submitted direct to the Registrar of Titles.
