Vol. 423 No. 6

Written Answers. - Visiting Visa Refusal.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

52 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Justice the reason a visiting visa was refused to a person (details supplied) from St. Lucia in view of the fact that he was coming to this country to be godfather to a child in Cork south-west.

It would be contrary to established practice to disclose the reasons for a refusal to grant a visa in a particular case. That approach is in line with the general international practice in this area. Each application is considered on an individual basis in the light of the information submitted in support of the application but, generally speaking, the criteria employed are related principally to the specified purpose and duration of the journey, the ability of the applicant to sustain himself or herself and the probability of the applicant returning home.
