Vol. 423 No. 6

Written Answers. - Illegal Listening Devices.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

79 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she proposes to introduce legislation to control the importation of technical equipment used for eavesdropping radio/telephone conversations without authority; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I refer the Deputy to the replies to two similar Parliamentary Questions on 22 May 1990 (columns 2344 and 2345 of Volume 398 of the Official Report for 22 May 1990) and on 5 July 1990 (columns 466 and 478 of Volume 401 of the Official Report for 5 July 1990).

I have no plans at present to introduce legislation banning the importation of the type of equipment mentioned by the Deputy.
