Vol. 423 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to have statements on the Green Paper on Education.

Will the Minister for Finance tell the House in relation to business next week whether the Government will be treating all votes on the referenda issues as matters of confidence?

The three Bills will be before the House all next week. The matter before the House will be the three constitutional referenda and no other business.

The question I would ask the Minister to answer is whether the Government are treating votes on all issues next week as matters of confidence.

The Deputy has put that question before. We cannot permit repetition at this stage.

In view of the short notice of this debate, can the Minister for Finance confirm that the three Bills being brought forward next week are Government Bills which have the support of both the junior and senior parties in Government?

Yes. The three Bills which will be before the House next week are totally supported by the Government.

I received this morning a copy of the schedule of business for next week which indicates that the Government are seeking to ram through this legislation in one week's sitting. I want to point out that——

A question, please.

——the Taoiseach gave me to understand that this matter would be dealt with over a two-week period and I want to know why he has gone back on that undertaking. I also want to know why it is that despite the promises which have been made that the legislation relating to information and the legislation relating to the Supreme Court judgment, which has also been promised, has not yet been circulated to Members of the House, who will have to deal with this matter over the weekend if they are to be prepared for the debate next week.

The Bill will be before the Oireachtas for two weeks. They will be before this House next week and in the Seanad the following week. I understand the information the Deputy is seeking is in the Bills Office but I will check that.
