Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Infectious Diseases Maintenance Allowance.

Bernard Allen

Question:

137 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that health boards are referring persons diagnosed as having TB to community welfare officers for the supplementary welfare allowance instead of applying the infectious disease regulations and paying them allowances for clothing and diet; if he will investigate the situation in the Cork area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that where persons qualify for Infectious Diseases Maintenance Allowance they are paid that allowance. In cases where such persons have dietary or other special needs they may also qualify for additional aid under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme and accordingly may be referred to the community welfare officers for appropriate assistance under that scheme.
