Question:139 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health when the training of psychiatric nurses will resume in the Western Health Board.

While my Department did approve a psychiatric student nurse intake for the Western Health Board the board has not to date been in a position to allocate the resources necessary to initiate this development.
The Deputy will appreciate that it is a matter for the Health Board to determine its priority service needs in the context of available resources and competing demands. Officials of my Department are keeping the situation under review and will be again shortly raising the issue in discussion with representatives of the Board.
