Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Funding for Dublin Traffic Signals.

Austin Currie

Question:

178 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a request from Dublin County Council to provide funding for the provision of pedestrian signals on Kennelsfort Road, Palmerstown, Dublin 20, where the volume of traffic at the entrance to a supermarket is a source of great danger to pedestrians; and, if so, when he intends to give a favourable reply.

A request from Dublin County Council for the provision of funding for traffic signals at the junction of the Kennelsfort Road and Wheatfield Road, Palmerstown has been received. As the roads in question are non-national roads, responsibility for the provision of signals rests with Dublin County Council, in consultation with the Garda, and the cost falls to be financed from the council's own resources, supplemented by the discretionary grants paid annually for such roads. A reply to this effect issued to the county council on 16 October 1992.
