Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Urban District Council Elections

John V. Farrelly

Question:

50 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment if a date for the holding of the Urban District Council elections has been decided upon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A review of local government at the sub-county level, on which the Advisory Expert Committee on Local Government Reorganisation and Reform failed to agree, is currently being carried out by a Ministerial committee. The position as to elections at the sub-county level is set out in the Local Government Act, 1991. Such further legislation as may be required will be decided by Government on finalisation of the sub-county review.
