Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Environmental Protection Agency.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

67 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment the qualifications of the board members of the Environmental Protection Agency; the method of appointment of its senior management, the staff requirements associated with the new headquarters in Johnston Castle in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to the statement on this matter which I made on the Adjournment of the House on Wednesday, 14 October 1992.

In selecting candidates for appointment as Director General and Directors, the selection committee provided for in the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992 will have regard, as required by sections 21 and 24, to the special knowledge, experience and other qualifications or personal qualities which they consider appropriate to enable the Agency's functions to be performed. Qualifications for these posts have not been otherwise prescribed for the present selection process. The method of appointment of senior management and the staff requirements at the Agency's headquarters will be a matter for the Agency, subject to the consent of the Ministers for the Environment and Finance as to numbers and grading.
