Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Ring Motorway Project.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

81 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to accept the tender for the construction of the northern route sections of the M50 Dublin ring motorway system; the reason for the delay; the cost of the project; the length of time required to complete the project; the number of people who will be employed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The acceptance of tenders for the construction of the Northern Cross Route is a matter for Dublin County Council, subject to my approval. On 17 September last, the council sought approval to the acceptance of a tender for Phase 1 of the project and this was conveyed on 8 October. It is now a matter for the council to complete the requisite formalities and get the work underway.

The overall cost of the project is currently estimated at £59 million and it is scheduled for completion by the Autumn of 1996. The level of employment will be a matter for the various contractors involved.
