Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny Discoveries.

Phil Hogan

Question:

84 Mr. Hogan asked the Taoiseach if he will confirm the existence of items (details supplied) which were discovered in County Kilkenny; the plans, if any, he has to return them to the local museum; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The items to which the Deputy is referring are all in the possession of the National Museum of Ireland.

There are no plans to exhibit these items in County Kilkenny nor has any request been made to do so. It is the policy of the National Museum to make available items on loan to local museums where they satisfy the National Museum's requirements in this area.

Among these requirements are the availability of a full-time professional curator to look after the objects and the adherence to sufficient standards relating to the security of the building and its environmental controls.
