Vol. 424 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to the Ceann Comhairle under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Noonan (Limerick East)— the serious loss of water through leakage at the reservoir at Castletroy, County Limerick; Deputy J. O'Keeffe — the position of a person in receipt of social welfare who cares for an elderly relative at home without any recognition or payment and the need for the carer's allowance system to cover that situation; Deputy Cotter — the need to change Government policy as it applies to the application of grant aid for the upgrading of facilities at poultry processing plants which supply the home market; Deputy McCartan — the position of an Irish citizen (details supplied) under false arrest at Murmansk, Russia with other Greenpeace activists on the MV Solo and the need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to protest to the Russian authorities and to take steps to secure her immediate release; Deputy Deenihan — the urgent need for the Government to provide funding to the Irish Hockey Union to develop a playing pitch for the Hockey World Cup in 1994; Deputy D. Ahern — the measures the relevant State agencies can take in order to alleviate potential job losses in the Customs clearance section with the abolition of tax frontiers on 1 January 1993; Deputy Kenny — the much needed extension to Castlebar General Hospital and Deputy Flanagan — the threatened loss of up to 2,000 jobs in Aer Lingus.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Flanagan, Noonan (Limerick East) and McCartan.
