Vol. 424 No. 1

Written Answers. - Adoption of Romanian Children.

Alan Shatter

Question:

33 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health the arrangements, if any, which have been entered into with the Romanian authorities to enable Irish people to adopt children in Romania in accordance with the procedures provided under the Adoption Act, 1991.

The Romanian authorities are anxious that agreed procedures be put in place for the adoption of Romanian children by Irish residents. Towards this end, a delegation comprising officials of my Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs and a representative of the Adoption Board will travel to Bucharest early next month for discussions with the Romanian Committee for Adoptions.
