Vol. 424 No. 1

Written Answers. - Consultant Orthodontist.

Donal Carey

Question:

45 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Health the date on which the post of consultant orthodontist with the Eastern health board was first advertised; the progress to date in filling that post; whether the circumstances surrounding the resignation of the previous appointee continued to cause difficulty in making the position attractive to other applicants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The post of Consultant Orthodontist with the Eastern Health Board was first advertised on 23 May 1990 and the successful candidate was appointed in May 1991.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, difficulties arose between the consultant and the health board management and the consultant subsequently resigned.

The health board has now made arrangements to fill the consultant orthodontist vacancy on a shared basis with the Dublin Dental Hospital. The post was advertised earlier this year and interviews have not yet been held.
