Vol. 424 No. 1

Written Answers. - Heart By-Pass Operation.

Jim Higgins

Question:

74 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for an emergency heart by-pass operation in University College Hospital, County Galway.

The patient in question is on the waiting list for surgery at the National Cardiac Surgery Centre, Mater Hospital, Dublin, but the hospital is not in a position to give a precise admission date at this time.

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of admission to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and every patient is asessed to determine their medical priority. Should the patient be concerned about his condition, he should return to his family doctor who would be in the best position to emphasise the urgency of his case directly to the consultant at the hospital.
