Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Clothing Allowance.

Tony Gregory

Question:

171 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will review the entitlement of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 for a school clothing allowance and fuel allowance.

The back to school clothing and footwear scheme, which is administered by the health boards on behalf of my Department, is designed to assist recipients of social welfare and health board payments on low incomes in meeting the cost of children's school uniforms and footwear.

It is understood from the Eastern Health Board that the person in question was refused a clothing and footwear allowance on the basis of her means.
I have no function in reviewing the decision of the health board in this matter. I understand, however that the applicant has requested a review of the decision and this is under consideration.
