Vol. 424 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) College.

Michael Bell

Question:

15 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the efforts made by the parents' council of St. Oliver Community College, Drogheda, County Louth, to provide the finance for the extra classrooms required by Drogheda Vocational Education Committee; if the promised finance for this much-needed project will be granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An examination of the tenders for an extension at St. Oliver's Community College, Drogheda, is currently being carried out by my Department's planning and building unit. When this examination has been completed we will proceed and instruct the vocational education committee to appoint the contractor.

I am aware of the efforts by the parents' council of the school to provide the finance necessary to facilitate the commencement of building.

Can the Minister inform us of the timescale involved and can the parents look forward to a resolution of their problems within the coming year?

As the Deputy probably knows, I have already given the school a timescale. The parents' council through their excellent efforts brought forward that timescale, which I appreciate. I will make every effort to adhere as closely as possible to the timescale I have given them.

Question No. 16, please.
