Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - Green Paper on Education.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

35 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education his views on whether the Green Paper on Education sets out sufficient guidelines for the development of school plans and reports to be framed so as to reflect a priority for disadvantage; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The first of the key aims listed in the Green Paper is the establishment of greater equity in education particularly for those who are disadvantaged socially, economically, physically or mentally.

The Green Paper goes on to set out the proposed broad thrust of future policy to achieve this aim. One of the key strategies for inclusion in the School Plan and Review is policy on support for children who need particular care and attention.
The Department will provide detailed guidelines on all the elements of the School Plan including that relating to support for children with special needs.
