Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dunleer (Louth) School.

Michael Bell

Question:

77 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the fact that 75 per cent of the total school population in Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, is located in prefab accommodation; and that this accommodation goes back a period of 25 years; his views on whether this is the oldest prefab establishment in any public school in Ireland; whether the extension promised over the years will be sanctioned by him for completion in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the fact that much of the accommodation at Scoil Uí Mhuire Vocational School, Dunleer, Co. Louth is by way of prefabricated rooms, some of which have been used by the school for a considerable time.

A new extension to the school has been approved and architectural planning has been completed. The question of proceeding to the next stage, i.e., the seeking of tenders will be considered in due course in the light of the financial allocation for 1993, when determined, and other commitments and priorities.
