Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - Choice of Schools.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

91 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education his views on whether Protestant parents, should in any new educational structures, continue to have the choice to send their children to schools which reflect their own values, tradition and ethos.

My policy is to continue to give all parents, including Protestant parents, the choice to send their children to schools which reflect their own ethos, values and traditions. The Green Paper, Education for a Changing World, does not contain any proposals which conflict with this policy. The new arrangements which will be put in place following the discussion on the Green Paper will, therefore, maintain parents' choice as referred to above.
