Question:

120 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Justice the number of women on the boards of agencies and companies under his control at the end of 1991; the plans, if any, he has to increase the number in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of women serving on the boards of agencies etc., under the aegis of my Department at the end of 1991 is given in the following table:—

* The terms of office of these Boards expired during 1991. The figures given represent the position at the date of expiry of the Boards.
I am cognizant of the need to have a greater representation of women on State Boards and this is a factor which I consider when making new appointments thereto.
