Vol. 424 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

123 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if he will favourably review the request for school transport for ten children attending St. John's national school, Monasterevan, County Kildare whose repeated requests for transport have been rejected, given that the service would also be utilised by at least four fare-paying children plus two secondary school students; if he will undertake a full evaluation of the request with a view to meeting the requirements as set out; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It has not been possible to set up a service here, because of an insufficient number of eligible pupils. Recently some extra names were submitted to my Department.

My Department is awaiting a report from Bus Eireann and will make a decision on the matter, as soon as it becomes available.
I will write to the Deputy when the decision has been made.
