Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Clinical Waste.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

118 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Health whether the health boards have clinical waste plans, and, if so, where they may be inspected by the general public.

In general the health boards do not have formal written clinical waste plans. Each hospital has its own operational procedures for disposing of clinical waste. These consist of waste reduction, segregation into clinical and domestic waste, and disposal by incineration for the former and to landfill for the latter. Other methods of disposal are currently under consideration by my Department and by the health boards.
