Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hip Replacement Operation.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

132 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be operated on for a replacement hip, as she is waiting some considerable time and is in severe pain.

The admission of a patient to hospital is a clinical decision for the consultant in charge of the case. Waiting lists are kept under review and priority is given to urgent cases.

I have had inquiries made of the Southern Health Board about this case and I understand that the patient will be called for surgery in approximately six months' time. If the patient's condition is causing concern she should contact her general practitioner, who would be in the best position to stress the urgency of the case to the consultant concerned.
