Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Ivor Callely

Question:

146 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment his views on the question of introducing driving tests for certain categories of vehicles, especially in specialised vehicles, such as the JCB; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Driving tests are already carried out in the full range of vehicle categories. Tests are carried out in vehicles which are considered to be representative of the category of vehicles for which a driving licence is sought. In the case of work vehicles and land tractors, which are category W for licensing purposes, a fairly wide range of vehicles, including JCB type vehicles, are considered to be representative of the category and are acceptable for testing purposes.
