Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Death of Irish Soldier in Lebanon.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

27 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Defence the reason the facts surrounding the death of an Irish soldier (details supplied) in Lebanon cannot be divulged to his wife in the company of her solicitor.

Reports on the circumstances of the death of the soldier have been furnished to his widow both by my Department and by the military authorities and questions raised by her have been answered. The military authorities have maintained regular and continuing contact with her since the death of her husband. I have instructed that arrangements be made for a meeting with the widow and her solicitor to address any further questions she may wish to raise.
