Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Exploration Test Results.

Séamus Cullimore

Question:

59 Mr. Cullimore asked the Minister for Energy the findings of exploration tests carried out off the Wexford coast in the 1970s at Kilmore and Cahore; and the company which carried out these.

Two petroleum exploration wells were drilled outside the territorial 12 mile limit off the Wexford coast during the 1970s. Both wells drilled by Marathon Petroleum (Ireland) Limited; one in block 50/3-1 in 1976, approximately 20 miles from Kilmore and the second in block 42/17-1 in 1978, approximately 20 miles from Cahore. The two wells were dry and were plugged and abandoned.

The results of these wells were provided by Marathon at the time of exploration and as the confidential period expired some years ago the data is available from my Department.
