Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grants for Shipbuilding Company.

Bernard Allen

Question:

61 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Marine the State aid given in recent years to a company (details supplied) in County Cork.

Since purchasing Cork shipyard in 1990, Damen Shipbuilders have initiated a major refurbishment programme to reequip and upgrade its ship repair and ship construction facilities. The IDA have approved grants of £210,000 towards the cost of the modernisation programme. To date about £102,000 in grant aid has been paid. It is understood that since acquisition, the owners have invested more than £600,000 in modernising the yard.
