Paul McGrath

Question:

68 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education the criteria used in assessing the need for a remedial teacher in a primary school.

Paul McGrath

Question:

69 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education the weighting, if any, which is given to assessment by teachers of their pupils in establishing priority for the appointment of remedial teachers in primary schools.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 68 and 69 together.

The appointment of remedial teachers is made following the collection of data and information from schools by my Department's primary inspectorate. The posts are allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected.

Such information would include the findings of assessments of pupils carried out by their teachers.
