Vol. 424 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tourism Statistics.

John Connor

Question:

77 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will make a statement on the 1992 tourist season, in particular in terms of overseas visitor numbers, levels of spending by tourists, employment and other economic impacts of the industry in this most recent season.

Estimates for 1992 visitor numbers will not be available from the Central Statistics Office until after year end, and estimates for 1992 tourist revenue and employment will not be ready until the second quarter of 1993.

The latest available CSO estimates for 1992 show visitor numbers up on last year by 4 per cent for the first six months of the year and overseas revenue up by 5 per cent for the first quarter.
