Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Kildare School Project.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

134 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education if he has considered the two options recently put to him by the North Kildare National School Project for the lease of an old Methodist church in Celbridge, County Kildare; if so, the decision, if any, he has made; if not, when he will consider the matter, since the request to lease the church in question was first lodged over twelve months ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has received an application from the North Kildare School Project for the recognition of a multi-denominational primary school.

The applicants had identified a premises, a former Methodist church, that they considered suitable for use as a temporary school premises and which they have sought to lease from the owner, another Government Department. That Department has been in communication with my Department on the matter.

A report on the suitability of the premises and site as a possible location for the proposed new school is under consideration in my Department at present. I anticipate that a decision in the matter will be taken shortly.
