Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Schools.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

150 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Education if the £1 million required for urgent remedial work to schools (details supplied) in Dublin 11 will be included in the imminent financial allocation.

My Department will be in touch with the management of this school in the near future in regard to the scheme of refurbishment proposed. The allocation of specific funding does not arise at this early stage of architectural planning.

Vincent Brady

Question:

151 Mr. V. Brady asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the number of classes in national schools on the north side of Dublin city where the class size exceeds 40 pupils.

In the 1991-92 school-year, the most recent year for which such data are available, there were five classes with more than 40 pupils in national school on the north side of Dublin city.

The teacher allocation made to the schools in questions, as in the case of all schools was sufficient to enable them to comply with my Department's guidelines on class size which state that class size should not exceed 39 pupils.
