Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Car Facility for State Board Member.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

171 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health his policy in respect of any semi-State company for which he has responsibility with regard to providing the chairperson/chief executive of that company with a motor car facility similar to that which has been provided by the Voluntary Health Insurance Board to it's chairman; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Chairpersons of State bodies for which I have responsibility are allowed civil service mileage rates in respect of journeys reasonably and necessarily undertaken in the course of their Board duties and using their own transportation. I am awaiting further information from the Board of the Voluntary Health Insurance Board on its decision to provide the Chairperson with a motor car.

The arrangement which apply in relation to travel by Chief Executives of State Bodies for which I have responsibility are as recommended by the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the public sector.
