Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Land Commission Pension.

Enda Kenny

Question:

227 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is entitled to a Land Commission pension.

The person mentioned worked as a labourer with the Land Commission until being made redundant in 1985. A superannuation award was made to him in 1985 comprising of a lump sum and pension based on his total Land Commission service of almost 10½ years. The lump sum was paid to him in 1985 but payment of the annual pension was preserved until his 65th birthday i.e. 14 October 1992.

However, prior service with Mayo County Council has only recently been approved for transfer for superannuation purposes and will add almost 5 years to the Land Commission service.

The lump sum and pension will now be calculated based on a total service of almost 15½ years. The appropriate balance due on the lump sum will be paid by my Department as soon as possible. The pension which is payable by the Office of the Paymaster General, is effective from 14 October 1992 and the recent approval to include the Mayo County Council service will ensure that the maximum pension applicable will be paid.
