Written Answers. - Constituency Office Staff.

Question:

243 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of staff employed in his constituency office; the salary scales of those staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In my Department staff are not formally divided between constituency and other duties. The situation varies from day to day in each office and staff carry out appropriate duties as the need arises. The following are the normal equivalent full-time staffing levels: (a) Constitutency duties, 6; (b) Other duties, 6½.

The following are the salary scales of the above staff.

1 Special Adviser on a salary of £35,574 p.a.

1 Personal Assistant on the Clerical Officer salary scale of £143.21-£254.86 per week.

1 Personal Secretary on the Secretarial Assistant scale of £141.19-£269.55 per week (plus a weekly allowance of £14.93).

1 Private Secretary on the Higher Executive Officer salary scale of £17,145£20,681 per annum with an allowance of £5,337 per annum.

2 Executive Officers on the salary scale £8,903-£17,145 per annum.

4 Clerical Officers in the salary scale of £143.21-£254.86 per week.

2½ Clerical Assistants-Clerical Assistant (Typists) on the salary scale £141.94£210.29 per week. The Clerical Assistant (Typist) receives a confidential allowance of £6.79 per week.
