Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Agricultural Grant Scheme Eligibility.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

245 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will allow farmers with suckling herds in disadvantaged areas to sell their calves and qualify for premia payments on the presentation of a receipt from a mart or from a licensed meat export premises.

My Department has been accepting official Mart and Licensed Meat Export Premises dockets for payment purposes on cattle, other than cows, sold on or after 24 August 1992, under the Cattle Headage Scheme in More Severely Handicapped Areas. In the Less Severely Handicapped Areas mart dockets in respect of calves sold on or after 1 October 1992 are being accepted as proof of existence of calves in herds with beef cows only for the purpose of qualifying cows for £75 Beef Cow Grants in such Areas. Dockets from Licensed Meat Export Premises are rarely relevant to the sale of calves.
