Question:

64 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Taoiseach if, in respect of the periods 1979 to 1984 and 1984 to 1991, he will give comparative aggregate inflation figures for Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Federal Republic of Germany and the EC as a whole.

The rates of inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Indices, for the periods 1979-84 and 1984-91 for Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Federal Republic of Germany and the average for the 12 member states of the EC are given in the following table:

65 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Taoiseach the annual rate of inflation for Ireland and the United Kingdom in each of the years ending March, 1981 to March, 1992 inclusive.

The annual rates of inflation for the months of March in the years 1981 to 1992 are given in the following table. In the case of Ireland, the figures relate to February as the index is compiled quarterly.
