Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Midlands Rescue Unit.

Paul McGrath

Question:

66 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Defence the progress, if any, which has been made in establishing a Midlands Rescue Unit; if he envisages a role for the Civil Defence in such a unit.

A meeting was recently held between officers of the Department of Defence and the Mullingar Sub Aqua Club to examine how the Civil Defence organisation could assist local rescue groups. It is expected that further discussiones will be held with other groups in this matter.

In the meantime, Civil Defence will continue to respond to rescue operations in the area in question within the capabilities of the organisation.
