Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rod Licence Fee.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

105 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Marine if he will allow a substantial reduction in the rod licence fee to, for example, juveniles and senior citizens who have fished salmon all their lives, and who because of the high cost of the licence are not able to afford the full rate and consequently can no longer afford to fish.

The Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1991 provided, in addition to the existing annual all districts salmon licence costing £25 and the 21 day salmon licence costing £10, for the introduction of three new categories of salmon licence viz.: district licence, £12; juvenile licence, £8; one day licence, £3.

As can be seen there is a juvenile salmon licence now in place and a district licence which enables salmon anglers to fish in one district only at a reduced rate.

These new categories were introduced following consultation with representatives of the angling community. I am satisfied that these arrangements cater adequately for all categories of salmon anglers.
