Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Parking Regulations.

Ivor Callely

Question:

115 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the unacceptable situation of large commercial vehicles parking on residential roads in the Dublin area; if he will seek a report from the Garda Commissioners on the most appropriate means of control and regulation of such vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they have received a number of complaints about the parking of large commercial vehicles in residential areas. Having considered the problem the Garda Commissioner considers that the most appropriate way of controlling such parking is for him to make by-laws under section 90 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968. Such by-laws are made after consultation with the local authority concerned and with the consent of the Minister for the Environment. The drafting of the necessary by-laws has been put in hands.
