Vol. 424 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cheese Production.

Ivan Yates

Question:

122 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the proposals, if any, he has to increase the level of cheese production in view of the need for diversity in dairy products.

It has been and remains Government policy to encourage the dairy industry to diversify from production of intervention commodities to production of consumer products, including cheese, and EC and national investment aid is provided in a manner consistent with that policy. Ultimately, however, it is a matter for each firm in the industry to decide its product portfolio.
